Passive Design for Sustainable Living

Efficiency is at the heart of creating sustainable urban spaces, with passive design solutions and efficient equipment playing critical roles. Passive design leverages natural elements like ventilation, shading, and insulation to regulate indoor climates without heavy reliance on energy- intensive systems. At Palava, the Lodha Net Zero Urban Accelerator has showcased the potential of passive design through enhanced thermal comfort strategies and urban heat mitigation. These efforts have achieved a median Energy Performance Index (EPI) of 41 kWh/m²/year, 35% below industry benchmarks.

The UrjaAnk initiative represents a bold step toward understanding and optimising energy usage in urban homes. Beginning with Palava City, the initiative seeks to benchmark typical energy consumption by comparing household data to industry standards and dissecting it by load type. This initiative aligns with India's Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) campaign, weaving together sustainable building practices, green space development, and promoting star-rated appliances.
