Thane, a suburb located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has been experiencing rapid infrastructure development in the past decade. It has emerged as a preferred destination for homebuyers and businesses alike due to its strategic location, excellent connectivity and affordable pricing. The city's infrastructure has undergone significant changes, making it a sought-after destination for both residential and commercial purposes.

Located just a few minutes from Thane, Lodha Upper Thane is a 200+ acre integrated township with more than 80% of the development devoted to open spaces. It has been designed by visionary architect Hafeez Contractor and landscaped by renowned design firm, Prabhakar B. Bhagwat & Associates. It's an integrated 'walk-to-everything' development, hence, everything is just a short 2/5/10 minute walk away. It holds the promise of an impeccably planned, efficient and culturally vibrant township. Its residents are in close proximity to the hotspots of Thane like popular malls including Viviana, and Korum, world-class schools like  Singhania, and Lodha World School as well as hospitals like Vedant and Jupiter. This township is also close to major business districts that are home to IT giants like TCS and Deloitte. Lodha Upper Thane is regarded as the next growth corridor of MMRDA. Let's take a look at how?

1. The Thane-Dombivli Link Road: A Bridge To Ease Traffic Woes

The Thane-Dombivli Link Road is a new connecting road that will connect Thane to Dombivli. This bridge is one of the crucial infrastructure projects for people living in the Thane-Dombivli belt. Currently, there are two routes from Thane to Dombivli. The first is from Thane-Mumbra-Dombivli. Second is the Thane-Bhiwandi bypass-Kalyan-Dombivli. Both routes are heavily congested. Travelling from Thane to Dombivli can take as long as 1 to 1.5 hours during peak traffic hours.

The Thane-Dombivli bridge will ease the traffic issues and, most importantly, it will reduce the time of commute from Dombivli to Thane to just half an hour. It will also reduce vehicular movement on the 2 longer routes. The six-lane bridge is being constructed on the creek between Mothagaon in Dombivli West and Upper Thane on the Thane side.

Currently, residents of Lodha Upper Thane, travel to Thane station via road, which is a 30-45 min ride (on good days). Once the bridge has been completed and opened, they can access the Dombivli (W) station within just 10 mins, easing their travel woes. In addition, this bridge will also ease access to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.

2. The Mahasamruddhi Mahamarg Expressway: Connecting Mumbai And Nagpur In Record Time

The Samruddhi Mahamarg route is a 701 km long, 6-lane expressway that connects Mumbai and Nagpur in just 8 hours. It runs through 392 villages across 10 districts and reduces travel time between the two cities to 7 hours. The expressway also connects major cities like Thane, Ahmednagar, Igatpuri (Nashik), Aurangabad, Amravati and Nagpur.

Phase 1 of the Mahamarg Expressway has already been inaugurated between Shirdi and Nagpur, covering a distance of 500 km. Phase 2, which covers the distance between Shirdi and Mumbai, is currently a work in progress and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2023. Once the expressway is ready, residents of Lodha Upper Thane can access it via the Mumbai-Nashik expressway and get on to the Mahamarg to access the above-mentioned cities.

This development makes Lodha Upper Thane as the new "Gateway to Mumbai"

3. Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor

The Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor is a 126 km long corridor that will connect Virar in the north to Alibaug in the south. The corridor will have three main components - road, railway and water transport. The corridor will have a four-lane road that will be elevated for most of its length, ensuring smooth traffic flow. The railway component of the corridor will be constructed as a new railway line, which will be built from Panvel to Virar, ensuring seamless connectivity between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Alibaug. Finally, the water transport component will provide connectivity to Alibaug from Mumbai, Nerul and Mandwa.

4. Railway Connectivity in Thane

The Thane railway station is a major junction and provides connectivity to several locations in Mumbai and beyond. Apart from this, India's ambitious bullet train project, also known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project aims to reduce travel time between the two cities from the current 7 hours to just 2 hours, making it a game-changer for the transportation sector in India. Additionally, the upcoming bullet train project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad will have a station in Thane, making it an even more convenient hub for commuters. One of the most exciting aspects of the project is the proposed underwater tunnel that will run under Thane Creek, connecting Mumbai with the mainland. The 21-kilometre-long tunnel will be the first of its kind in India and will be built at a depth of 16 meters below the seabed.

5. The New Metro Line 5: Connecting Thane, Bhiwandi & Kalyan

The new Metro Line 5 is an elevated corridor that spans 24.90 km and has 15 stations. It will connect Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan, providing rail-based access to commercial areas, government buildings and important landmarks.

One of the great things about the new Metro Line 5 is that it will provide interconnectivity among other metro lines. It will connect with the ongoing Metro Line 4, which runs from Wadala to Kasarvadavli. It will also connect with the proposed Metro Line 12, which will run from Kalyan to Taloja. Additionally, the new Metro Line 5 will connect with the existing Central Railway. It will bring many benefits to the people of Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan like reducing travel time by 50% to 75%. This means that people will be able to get to their destinations much faster than they currently can. Another benefit is that the new Metro Line 5 will provide rail-based access to important areas, making it easier for people to get to commercial areas, government buildings and important landmarks.

6. Thane-Borivali Tunnel Road

The landmark project which would take 5 years to materialize, would enable residents of Lodha Upper Thane to reach Borivali within 30 minutes, from the current commute time of 1 hour and 45 mins. It would begin at Thane's Tiku-ji-ni-wadi and end at the Western Express Highway at Borivali, opening up many multiple growth opportunities for both the suburbs
