February 26, 2025Your home is more than just four walls that offer shelter-it is a place where you build your life, spend time with loved ones, and work towards fulfilling your aspirations. With so much at stake, you want your home to be a place brimming with positive energy and harmony. One of the best ways to create a home that boosts prosperity, and abundance is to design it in accordance with Vastu norms. Vastu Shastra is an ancient practice that combines natural elements like earth, fire, water, and air to create an energy that promotes harmony, health, and happiness. Focusing on architecture and design, Vastu Shastra covers various aspects of setting up a home, including room placement, ventilation, furniture arrangement, and so on. Here are a few Vastu tips that you can incorporate into your home to enhance harmony, balance, and well-being:
Your home’s doorway is an entry point for visitors and a portal for energy. Vastu says your home’s doorway is the archway to progress and victory. To harness its full potential, it is best to ensure it faces north, east, or northeast. A basic Vastu tip for a new house is that the home’s main door should be made of high-quality wood and be taller than the rest of the doors in your home. Vastu states that it is best to avoid placing any water-centric decoration and shoe rack or dustbin outside the main door. You should also refrain from painting it black, having a bathroom or placing animal figurines near it. To maximise the power of your main door, ensure it is well-lit, opens clockwise, and is decorated with garlands.
Regardless of your religion, chances are you have a spiritual space in your home. Vastu also has tips on how you can set up such a room to help you develop a stronger connection with a higher power. As per Vastu, it is best to set up a spiritual space in the east or northeast area of your home. These directions are most suited for pursuits like meditation, yoga, and introspection. If you are an ardent meditator, doing so while facing east will increase positivity and focus. Vastu also requires you to paint such a room in soothing shades of white, beige, green, or yellow. If you are planning to create a sacred altar, it is best to decorate it with candles or incense sticks for increased positivity.
Whether you are coming home after a long day at work or receiving guests, your living room is a communal space where anyone can relax. As such, you want it to radiate with warmth and positivity. One of the best Vastu tips for creating a harmonious living room set-up is to keep the space free of clutter. The room should also face east, north, or northeast. A northwest-facing living room will also do. If you plan on using heavy furniture in your living room, it should be placed in the west or southwest direction of the space. Lastly, ensure that any electronics or appliances in the room are installed in the southeast section of the living room.
Vastu also provides an array of tweaks you can make to your bedroom for better intimacy with your partner and improved sleep. According to Vastu Shastra, your bedroom should be in the southwest direction for improved health and prosperity. A bedroom in the northeast or southeast areas can cause health issues and problems between couples. You should place your bed in the southwest corner of the room and rest your head facing the west. Avoid placing a mirror or TV in front of the bed to circumvent domestic disruptions, and do not place a temple or water-themed items in the room to prevent emotional outbursts. Make sure to paint your bedroom walls neutral for positivity and use mood lighting and aroma therapy to create a cocoon of calm.
