November 27, 2024Continuing its tradition of hosting events that encourage the development of young leaders, Lodha Oakwood School hosted the LOS Model G20 Summit, a unique inter-school simulation emulating G20 dynamics. The summit successfully empowered the children of our nation to be future leaders by assessing pressing global issues and deliberating on impactful resolutions.
The 3-day event witnessed the participation of 15 schools across Mumbai, many of which were international schools in Mumbai, with each school team representing a G20 country. The team members assumed the roles of prime ministers, finance ministers, sherpas, and foreign ministers. This event was held from 3rd to 5th October 2024, and the theme for this G20 Summit was ‘Health, Sports & Well-being’. The jury, comprising industry experts and education stalwarts, evaluated the proceedings. The summit’s agenda encompassed diplomatic discussions, collaborative problem-solving, an awards ceremony, and a vibrant cultural showcase.
On Day 1, the chief guests for the commencement ceremony were Vinti Lodha, advisor to Lodha Luxury; and Joel Adsett, Vice Consul at the Australian Trade Commission who announced the summit to be open and proceedings to begin. They oversaw as well as participated in the thought-provoking discussions and high-stakes negotiations that these young minds showcased with leadership, collaboration, and the drive to make a difference.
Day 2 saw the awards ceremony presided over by Dr. Renuka Bradoo and Mr. Christopher Pedra, Head of Sports Medicine - Reliance Foundation Hospital. Lodha World School, Thane won the award for 'Best Foreign Minister' for their assigned country, Japan. Don Bosco International School, representing the Republic of Korea won the title for ‘Best Finance Minister.’ Shri Ram Universal School, representing France took away the 'Best Creativity & Originality' prize, while Oberoi International School OGC's Russia team scored the 'Best Foreign Minister' title. The event culminated in a vibrant Cultural Fair on day 3, where students took on the mantle of Cultural Ambassadors and put up cultural exhibits for their assigned G20 country, going in-depth into the culture of that country and representing it through art, decor, food, drink, music, performances and more. Each of the 15 school teams and their representative country brought the rich diversity of G20 nations to life through creative and interactive exhibits. In a double whammy, Lodha World School, Thane won the award for 'Best Cultural Representation' of their assigned country, Japan; while Lodha World School, CBG Palava won 'Best Cultural Ambassadors' for Indonesia.
